AT ANTIOCH SCHOOL

Program and Pie Supper Held There a Success

Residents in the vicinity of Antioch school south of Numa had the privilege of hearing an excellent program given by the school Friday evening, October 29.   The school is taught by Miss Nellie Wailes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Wailes, of Jerome.    This is her first year, but she is proving to be a very successful teacher, and the program given was one much appreciated by the patrons.   A picnic supper was held in connection, which netted $31.76.

Friday will be the last day of school at the Valley. Miss Effie Condra is the teacher. Her brother Paul, teaches the Antioch school, and Saturday will be his last day. He is planning on a picnic dinner and a program. There will be a ball game between the two schools. Everyone is invited.

Miss Dorothy Seath closed a very successful term of school at the Antioch school, District No. 1 Franklin Township, April 20.

Many of the neighbors and friends gathered about noon at the school house with well filled baskets and enjoyed a very nice dinner which was served cafeteria style.

In the afternoon a program was given, which was prepared by Miss Seath and her pupils. The program was as follows:

Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Guy McCannon and son George, and daughter Lola, Ruth, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Law, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Langford, Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Seath and son Wayne, Mrs. Ora McIntyre and son Glenn Melvin, Mrs. Phronia Huffman, Miss Cecil Langford, Miss Grace Wilson, Miss Ethel Christy.

After the program all assembled out of doors where pictures were taken.

Miss Seath was asked to teach our school for the coming term but as she was elected to a position in the grades she accepted.

All departed to their homes wishing Miss Seath and her pupils success.

Three Cincinnati girls are teaching schools in Franklin township.   They are Miss Mildred Ellis, teaching the South Wilson, while Miss Alice Campbell is teaching the Antioch school and Miss Hazel Jones is teaching at the Fairview near Genoa.

Miss Willadene Powers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Powers near Centerville, was in Cincinnati for a short time Thursday.    Miss Powers taught the Antioch school, 5 miles out from here and closed a few days ago.

Glen Bartlett and Trenton Ullrick were in Cincinnati Thursday and Friday taking the eighth grade examinations. These boys are students of Antioch school. Ida Harper, a student at Farmer school, took the examinations at Numa.

ANTIOCH SCHOOL

The teacher and pupils of Antioch school held a program and candy supper at the school house Wednesday evening, Oct. 31 that was a decided success, both socially and financially.    Witches, goblins, evil spirits and many others were there and a merry time was enjoyed guessing who was hidden by the masks, the prize going to Miss Maxine Ayers and Gail Hunt for the best costumes.    The following program was given:

A program and candy supper was held at the Antioch school Friday, Nov. 22.   A fair sized crowd was in attendance.   Miss Velma Matheson was awarded a box of candy as being the most popular girl.    Allan McHolland and Velma Matheson received a box of "Kisses" for being the most lovesick couple.   Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Hibbs presented the school with a box of candy which was sold nickel a bid, the last bidder being Charley Brinkley, Jr.    It brought $4.25.    Total proceeds of the evening were $12.44, the following program was given.

Mrs. May Handlin won the box of candy as the most popular one present.   Jimmie Hibbs' store of Numa donated a box of candy to the school.   The total proceeds amounted to $19.94.   Miss Thelma Purvis is the teacher.

A large and enthusiastic crowd attended the candy supper and program given at the Antioch school Tuesday night.   The contest between Miss Frances Lowe and Mrs. M.M. Toliver furnished fun for the crowd.    Miss Lowe won the box of candy.   Donald McCannon was the best guesser and won the jar of candy.   The proceeds of the evening was $14.   Ed Condra was the auctioneer.    The following program was given:

The pupils of Antioch school and teacher, Miss Edith Condra, gave a splendid program to a large and enthusiastic crowd, Friday evening Nov. 12.    A jar of pickles was given to Oral Purvis and Miss McElderry as the sweetest couple, and a small lamp to the couple staying up the latest, they being Glen Brown and Miss Condra.    Proceeds of the evening were $14.03.
